About the Role
The successful applicant will fabricate, assemble and join metal components using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting methods. The role will involve accurately aligning and positioning metal sections, inspecting completed welds for quality and precision, and finishing welded components to meet required specifications and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Align parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
- Measure, position and fit metal components accurately prior to joining
- Join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
- Select and use appropriate welding equipment and techniques according to the materials and job requirements
- Set up and operate welding equipment, hand tools and associated equipment safely and effectively
- Examine completed welds for width of bead, penetration, precision and overall quality
- Identify welding defects and carry out appropriate corrective work where required
- Clean and smooth welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
- Fabricate and assemble metal components in accordance with drawings, measurements and specifications
- Ensure completed work meets required dimensions, specifications and quality standards
- Maintain welding equipment, tools and work areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including the safe use of welding equipment, tools and personal protective equipment
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant trade qualification in Welding, Metal Fabrication or a related field is preferred
- Minimum two years' relevant experience in welding or a comparable metal fabrication environment
- Demonstrated ability to align and position metal components using hand tools and measuring instruments
- Demonstrated experience joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
- Ability to examine welds for bead width, penetration, precision and overall quality
- Ability to clean and smooth welds using filing, chiselling, grinding and related finishing techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements and specifications
- Good knowledge of welding equipment, hand tools and measuring instruments
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements relevant to welding and metal fabrication
- Ability to identify and resolve welding defects and quality issues
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Good communication and organisational skills
Desirable
- Experience working with different metals and welding processes
- Experience in metal fabrication, assembly or repair work
- Relevant welding or fabrication certifications
Hours
Full-time, minimum 38 hours per week, with reasonable additional and flexible hours where required by business operations.
Salary: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 plus superannuation.
