About the Role Dear Darnell’s is seeking an experienced Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. Working alongside our Head Chef and kitchen team, the successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality food in accordance with our menu, recipes and presentation standards. This is a hands-on kitchen position suited to an experienced cook who is comfortable working in a busy restaurant environment and maintaining consistent standards throughout service. Key Responsibilities Prepare and cook food in accordance with established recipes, menu specifications and presentation standards. Prepare ingredients and complete mise en place prior to service. Examine ingredients and food products to ensure quality and freshness. Operate ovens, grills, fryers and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Monitor and regulate cooking equipment temperatures. Season and cook food using appropriate cooking techniques. Portion, plate and garnish dishes according to venue standards. Prepare food to accommodate allergies, dietary requirements and customer requests. Monitor food quality, portion control and presentation throughout service. Store food and ingredients appropriately in temperature-controlled facilities. Rotate stock and assist with maintaining appropriate food storage procedures. Assist with monitoring kitchen stock levels and food requirements. Assist with receiving and checking food deliveries. Minimise food waste and assist with effective portion and stock control. Assist the Head Chef and senior kitchen staff with menu preparation and estimating food requirements where required. Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic workstation throughout preparation and service. Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas. Follow food safety, hygiene, workplace health and safety and venue procedures at all times. Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and the front-of-house team to ensure efficient and timely service. Assist with the training and development of junior kitchen staff and apprentices where required. Complete opening, service and closing kitchen duties as directed by the Head Chef. Skills & Experience The successful applicant will have: Previous experience working as a Cook in a commercial restaurant or hospitality environment. Relevant cookery qualifications and/or relevant industry experience. Strong food preparation and cooking skills. Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and food safety requirements. Ability to work efficiently in a busy service environment. Good understanding of food storage, temperature control and hygiene procedures. Ability to consistently follow recipes, portioning and presentation standards. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Good organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a kitchen team. Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required. The position is a hands-on cooking role, with the majority of duties involving the preparation, cooking, plating and safe handling of food within a commercial restaurant kitchen.
