About the Role
Programmed is seeking an experienced Pipe Fabricating Supervisor to join our workshop team in Unanderra, NSW.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pipe fabricator to take the next step in their career and lead the day-to-day delivery of pipe fabrication activities within a busy workshop environment.
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating our team, ensuring work is planned, organised and delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality.
You will provide hands-on leadership across pipe fabrication, welding, fit-up and assembly activities, while coordinating labour, materials, priorities and workflow to ensure projects are delivered to schedule and customer requirements.
This is a key role within our operation, with responsibility for maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and productivity while supporting the continued development of our fabrication team.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the workshop team, ensuring efficient workflow and delivery of projects in accordance with agreed schedules.
Plan and allocate daily fabrication activities based on project priorities, drawings, materials and available resources.
Oversee pipe fabrication activities including measuring, cutting, fit-up, tack welding, welding, assembly and preparation of pipe spools and associated components.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, spool drawings, specifications and fabrication documentation.
Ensure fabrication and welding activities are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, approved procedures and customer requirements.
Monitor quality throughout the fabrication process and conduct inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy, fit-up, weld quality and overall compliance.
Identify and address fabrication issues, discrepancies and rework requirements, escalating technical matters where required.
Coordinate materials, consumables, tooling and equipment to support efficient workshop production.
Monitor progress against production schedules and identify potential delays or resource constraints.
Liaise closely with the Workshop Supervisor regarding project requirements, priorities, resources and delivery expectations.
Maintain accurate records relating to production, labour, materials, quality and safety.
Work closely with other workshop disciplines to coordinate fabrication, welding, assembly and associated activities.
Undertake hands-on pipe fabrication and welding activities where required, providing technical guidance and leading by example.
Identify opportunities to improve fabrication methods, workshop processes, productivity and efficiency.
Assist with material take-offs, fabrication estimates, project planning and quoting where required.
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all team members comply with company, customer and legislative WHS requirements.
Maintain a clean, organised and productive workshop environment.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced boilermaker or pipe fabricator with strong technical capability and demonstrated experience leading fabrication teams.
You will ideally have:
A current Australian-recognised Boilermaking, Fabrication or related trade qualification.
5+ years' hands-on experience in pipe fabrication, boilermaking and/or mechanical fabrication.
Demonstrated experience supervising, leading or coordinating tradespeople within a workshop or fabrication environment.
Strong practical experience in pipe fabrication, including measuring, cutting, fit-up, welding and assembly.
The ability to confidently read and interpret piping isometric drawings, spool drawings, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Strong understanding of fabrication tolerances, weld preparation, fit-up and quality requirements.
Competency across relevant welding processes and workshop fabrication equipment.
A strong understanding of Australian WHS requirements and relevant industry standards.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise work to meet production schedules.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and work effectively with trades teams, management and customers.
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
A demonstrated commitment to safety, productivity and continuous improvement.
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced workshop environment.
Desirable: Post-trade qualifications, welding qualifications, supervisory qualifications or additional relevant industry certifications.
