Eminent IT at Runaway Bay, QLD, is a trusted technology partner to businesses that rely on their systems being connected, secure and available every working day. From its Gold Coast base, with a presence in Sydney and Melbourne, the business brings together managed IT services, networking and security, cloud solutions, backup and disaster recovery, business telephony, web development and responsive helpdesk support, so clients can look to one provider for the technology behind their operations. Eminent IT's focus is on solutions that are innovative, dependable and cost-effective, and that scale as its clients grow. The business is now looking for an experienced Computer Network and Systems Engineer to join the team. Computer Network and Systems Engineer | Eminent IT | Runaway Bay, QLD In this role you will: • Keep a close eye on the health and capacity of the client networks under Eminent IT's management, studying traffic patterns, latency, bandwidth use and monitoring alerts, and tuning switching, routing, wireless and internet links so each network runs at its best. • Plan, build and configure network environments for new and expanding client sites, including cabled and Wi-Fi rollouts, VLAN segmentation, site-to-site VPNs between offices and secure remote access for staff working away from the office. • Look at how each client's servers, workstations, operating systems, cloud services and phone systems work together as a whole, and put forward practical, costed recommendations to lift reliability, security and performance across the environment. • Strengthen client networks against cyber threats by configuring firewalls, content filtering, endpoint protection and multi-factor authentication, keeping firmware and patches current, and responding promptly to security alerts. • Work through system architecture specifications, network topology diagrams and data models, and use them to configure servers, cloud platforms and line-of-business applications and bring them together cleanly within a client's existing setup. • Set up and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions, checking that backups complete, running regular restore tests and documenting recovery procedures so clients can be back up and running quickly after an outage or data loss. • Prepare system and network designs for new client projects, producing architecture drawings, IP addressing schemes and configuration specifications, and weighing up vendor hardware and software options against each client's needs and budget. • Plan and carry out migrations of email, files and workloads to the cloud, setting up user identities, access permissions and data synchronisation so the move is smooth for the client's staff. • Configure and support business communications, including VoIP and hosted phone systems, and the quality-of-service settings on client networks that keep calls clear and reliable. • Conduct network audits and health checks for new and existing clients, identifying bottlenecks, ageing equipment and single points of failure, and presenting the findings with a prioritised improvement plan. • Stay across new networking hardware, security tools and infrastructure technologies, assess how they would perform in client environments, and advise management on which solutions to bring into the managed services offering. • Act as the escalation point for the helpdesk team, diagnosing and resolving complex network, server and connectivity faults remotely or on site, and keeping clients informed through to resolution. • Support the web development team with hosting, DNS, SSL certificates and server configuration for client websites and web applications. • Schedule maintenance windows, upgrades and infrastructure changes so that disruption to each client's business is kept to a minimum, and keep network diagrams, device configurations and change records up to date so every environment can be supported consistently by the wider team. About you: • At least 1 year of experience as a Computer Network and Systems Engineer or in a closely related network or systems engineering role. • A bachelor degree or higher qualification, preferably in information technology, computer science, network engineering or a closely related discipline. Personal attributes: • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a methodical approach to complex technical problems. • A clear communicator who can explain technical issues in plain language to clients and colleagues. • Well organised and able to manage several client environments and priorities at the same time. • Works well as part of a small, collaborative team as well as independently on client sites. Salary & Employment Conditions: • Permanent, full-time position, 38 hours per week. • Salary of $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
