About the Role
An established retail business operating in Nhulunbuy is seeking an experienced Retail Supervisor to assist with the daily operation of its shop.
The business provides clothing, household products, refreshments and everyday convenience items to customers in Nhulunbuy and surrounding remote communities.
This is a hands-on supervisory position. The successful applicant will supervise retail staff while helping maintain high standards of customer service, stock control, merchandising and daily shop operations.
Main duties
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of retail sales staff
- Prepare work schedules, allocate duties and monitor staff performance
- Train staff in customer service, sales procedures, cash handling and workplace requirements
- Ensure customers receive prompt service and quality products
- Respond to customer enquiries, complaints, returns and requests
- Examine returned goods and determine the appropriate action
- Monitor inventory, conduct stocktakes and order replacement stock
- Receive deliveries and check goods against purchase orders and invoices
- Ensure products are correctly priced, presented and displayed
- Supervise point-of-sale, register-balancing and cash-handling procedures
- Open and close the premises and ensure security procedures are followed
- Report staffing, stock and operational matters to the owner or management
Skills and experience
The successful applicant should have:
- At least one year of relevant retail experience, preferably with supervisory responsibilities
- A relevant Certificate II or Certificate III qualification, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience supervising or coordinating retail staff
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Experience handling customer enquiries, complaints and returned goods
- Experience with cash handling and point-of-sale systems
- Knowledge of stock control, ordering and merchandising
- The ability to prepare schedules, allocate duties and monitor staff performance
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to work independently and make practical decisions
- The ability to communicate respectfully with customers from different culturalbackgrounds.
- Willingness to live and work in Nhulunbuy on a long-term basis
