About the Employer
We are supporting a Northern Territory-based Australian private company (ABN 83 650 442 283) operating major business establishments in Wurrumiyanga, Bathurst Island. The business operates across the retail, food, hospitality and automotive sectors, including a post office, shopping centre, bakery, restaurant, coffee shop and motor shop.
The company is known for its strong community presence and for providing essential goods and services to the local community. With its diverse operations and established workforce, they are seeking to fill the following role: Butcher.
This opportunity offers stable employment and the chance to work within a supportive, community-focused work environment.
Annual salary : $65,000 - $80,000 excluding superannuation
Work location : Wurrumiyanga, Bathurst Island NT 0822
Work hours : Average of 38 ordinary hours per week (permanent, full-time basis).
POSITION SUMMARY
The Butcher will join a team in a remote work environment and will be responsible for meat preparation (select, cut, and trim) for sale and supply, and for operating meat and smallgoods processing machines.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and cut various types of meat, including beef, pork, lamb, and poultry.
- Monitor and manage meat inventory, ensuring freshness and quality. Manage the ordering of meat from suppliers.
- Assist customers with their meat selections and provide expert advice on meat preparation and cooking.
- Work closely with the supermarket, café, and restaurant teams to ensure timely and accurate supply of meat products.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety in the butchery area, adhering to all health regulations.
- Process and fulfill customer orders efficiently and accurately.
POSITION COMPETENCIES
- Resourceful and willing to work in a retail meat processing environment in a remote setting.
- Highly skilled in sharpening and using knives effectively for different cutting tasks (boning, trimming, and slicing) and in using standard measuring devices & instruments.
- Strong background in maintaining and complying with health and safety regulations specific to a retail meat processing environment.
- Excellent time management and ability to work independently.
- Experience in working collaboratively with a multicultural team.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Certificate III (including 2 years of on-the-job training), or AQF Certificate IV and one year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- At least 3 years of relevant full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience
