Summary
Our client Interex Custom Joinery is seeking to add a Carpenter to its established team in Prestons, Sydney. Operating since 2013, the business specialises in the manufacture and installation of custom joinery and high-quality residential and commercial fit-outs. The successful applicant will undertake workshop manufacturing and site installation work involving detailed cabinetry, timber components, shopfitting and custom joinery requiring accurate interpretation of drawings, measurements and finishing specifications.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, plans and specifications to determine measurements, materials and installation requirements.
- Manufacture and assemble custom timber components, cabinetry and detailed joinery within the workshop.
- Install custom joinery across residential and commercial fit-out projects.
- Carry out cabinet making and factory production activities associated with custom joinery projects.
- Cut, shape, assemble and join timber and manufactured board materials using hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery.
- Check site dimensions and measurements prior to manufacture and installation.
- Install cabinetry, wardrobes, wall panels, doors and other detailed interior joinery components.
- Complete shopfitting and custom joinery installation in accordance with drawings and project specifications.
- Make practical on-site adjustments to joinery where required to achieve correct fit, alignment and finish.
- Check levels, alignment, tolerances and finishing standards throughout manufacture and installation.
- Prepare timber fittings, frames and components for workshop assembly and site installation.
- Coordinate installation activities with supervisors, project managers, tradespeople and other site personnel.
- Repair, adjust and maintain existing timber fittings, fixtures and joinery where required.
- Select appropriate timber, hardware, fittings and materials for assigned manufacturing and installation work.
- Maintain required workmanship, safety and quality standards across workshop production and site installation.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- AQF Certificate III in Carpentry, Certificate IV, or an equivalent relevant qualification or acceptable substitute experience.
- Minimum 12 months’ recent, directly relevant experience as a Carpenter, Joiner or in a closely comparable role.
- Demonstrated experience manufacturing and/or installing detailed joinery across residential or commercial projects.
- Experience with cabinet making, custom joinery, shopfitting or comparable workshop and installation work.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, plans, specifications and project measurements.
- Practical experience cutting, shaping, assembling and installing timber and joinery components to required tolerances and finishing standards.
- Competence using carpentry and joinery hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery safely.
- Ability to undertake site measurements and make appropriate installation adjustments where required.
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople and project teams.
- Current construction White Card and Australian driver’s licence are desirable for workshop and site-based project duties.
